USAS Berhad is the Corporate Owner of Universiti Sultan Azlan Shah
(ie. Sultan Azlan Shah University in Kuala Kangsar, Perak, Malaysia).
Roles included:
• Overseeing the operation and financial management of the university.
• Developing and overseeing other business activities of the corporation.
Managing Director, NSTP Group Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur [1978 - 1992]
- Dato’ Khalid started in Turquand Young, Azman Wong Salleh & Co from January 1976 till June 1977 before making a move to corporate management in July 1978 when he joined The New Straits Times Press (M) Berhad (NSTP) as an Assistant Accountant.
- Within a short period, he rose to Senior Accountant, Chief Accountant and was promoted to Finance Controller in 1985. In 1990 he made a significant switch to a key non-financial position, becoming the Senior Group GM for Production and Circulation for the Group. In 1991, he was promoted to Managing Director, serving until 1992.
- During his tenure, he:
- fully converted the newspaper operation onto the digital mode
- conceived and launched the HARIAN METRO, which is now the newspaper with one of the largest daily circulation in Malaysia.
- At the NSTP Group, other than the publishing of newspapers and magazines, Dato’ Khalid was also directly involved in acquiring, starting-up or managing other diversified businesses in computer hardware and software services, general insurance and life insurance.
- The NSTP Group was also a significant 20% in CIMB, which is now the second largest Investment Bank Group in Malaysia.
Managing Director, TV3 Bandar Utama, Selangor [1993]
- Dato’ Khalid was appointed Managing Director of Sistem Television Malaysia Berhad (popularly known as TV3) in 1993.
- He started daily morning programming at TV3 and changed the programming policy from entertainment to having more information and people based programming.
- He also embarked on a serious content creation drive with the production of documentaries and movies.
- Programmes include:
- Malaysia Hari Ini,
- Wanita Hari Ini
- JEJAK RASUL.
- Grand Brilliance Sdn Berhad - Grand Brilliance Sdn Berhad was started to spearhead and encourage movie making, and is now one of the largest television content owners in the country.

Pioneer, The KL Options and Financial Futures Exchange ie. KLOFFE [1991]
In 1991 Dato Khalid was tasked to start the first electronic derivative exchange in the country, The KL Options and Financial Futures Exchange or KLOFFE.
As director in charge, he launched KLOFFE on 15 December 1995 while still in his fulltime position as TV3 MD. KLOFFE was eventually taken over by BURSA MALAYSIA.
Investor, Applied Research of Australia Pty Ltd [1994]
In 1994, in parallel to his main activities in media, television, advertising and IT industries in Malaysia, Dato' Khalid personally invested in Adelaide, Australia in the areas of applied research for the application of composite materials being used as reinforcement as replacement of steel reinforcement used for protection of coal mines in Australia and US.
He strongly believes in renewable and recycle of materials and resources in order to be environmentally friendly. Company is now operating in Malaysia focusing on buildings & materials protection
Executive Chairman, MRCB Kuala Lumpur [1996]
- In 1996, Dato’ Khalid was appointed as the Executive Chairman of Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad (MRCB), the diversified holding company for NSTP , STMB and Malakoff (the power plant group) MRCB was also involved in property development and infrastructure.
- During his tenure:
- Dato’ Khalid finalized the concession agreement, conceptualized and started the groundbreaking and construction for KL’s major transportation hub and landmark, the KL Sentral.
- Before his retirement he managed to start the station, the Hotels, KL Hilton and Le Meridian, The Sentral Plaza and also The Suasana Sentral Condominium, which was a joint venture with Pidemco Land and was actually the first real estate joint venture by a Singapore Government company outside Singapore.
- His other Chairmanship were mainly for companies within or connected to the Group. Notable ones include as Chairman for KL Sentral, Segari Energy Power, Port Dickson Power, Transmission Technology and Teras Cemara, the developer for the Bandar Seri Iskandar in Perak.

Dato’ Khalid served as a board member of Technology Park Malaysia for 17 years until 2012, a GOC company under Ministry of Finance (MOF) and Ministry of Science and Technology (MOSTE).

PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIPS

Currently a Past President of Malaysia Advisory Committee of the
Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) in Malaysia
(after serving for eight years as President).
ACCA has about 10,000 professional accountant members in and about 24,000 student members
in Malaysia.
After being elected by ACCA members over 180 countries, Dato’ Khalid volunteered his time to
sit in the ACCA World Council in London. He was elected (in September 2011) and
went on to serve for 2-3 year terms until 2014.
Within the above period he was also appointed by the Malaysian Finance Minister 2 to serve for
two terms in the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA).
This is the regulatory membership based body for accountants in Malaysia.
